HydroHeal · H₂

The smallest molecule in existence

Inhaled hydrogen therapy delivers molecular hydrogen (H₂) directly into the bloodstream via the lungs. Because H₂ is the smallest molecule in existence, it reaches mitochondria and the brain in minutes, selectively neutralizing the most damaging oxidative species without disrupting the signaling ROS your body needs.

HydroHeal

What It Is

Inhaled Hydrogen Therapy (H₂)

Inhaled hydrogen therapy involves breathing a low concentration of molecular hydrogen gas (H₂), typically mixed with air or oxygen, to deliver hydrogen directly into the bloodstream via the lungs. It's the fastest and most efficient delivery method for hydrogen, reaching tissues within minutes.

Molecule Property

The Smallest Molecule in Existence

The Smallest Molecule in Existence

Hydrogen is the smallest molecule in existence, which gives it a unique property: it can penetrate every membrane, cross the blood-brain barrier, and enter mitochondria and cell nuclei, places most antioxidants and drugs cannot reach.

Core Mechanism

The Core Mechanism

The Core Mechanism

H₂ selectively neutralizes the most damaging reactive oxygen species, particularly the hydroxyl radical (•OH) and peroxynitrite (ONOO⁻), without disrupting beneficial ROS that the body uses for signaling and immune function. This selectivity is what makes it unusual compared to broad antioxidants like Vitamin C, which indiscriminately neutralize ROS.

Why the Hydroxyl Radical Matters

Most oxidative stress damage comes from the hydroxyl radical, it's extraordinarily reactive, damages DNA, lipids, and proteins, and the body has no natural enzyme to neutralize it. Conventional antioxidants struggle to reach it fast enough. H₂, being tiny and uncharged, diffuses instantly to where it's produced, inside mitochondria, and neutralizes it at the source.

Benefits, Research-Supported

  • Anti-inflammatory

    • Downregulates NF-κB, the master inflammatory signaling pathway
    • Reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-α, IL-1β)
    • Relevant for chronic inflammatory conditions, autoimmunity, and metabolic disease
  • Neuroprotective

    • Crosses blood-brain barrier readily
    • Studies show benefit in Parkinson's, stroke recovery, TBI, and cognitive decline
    • Reduces neuroinflammation and oxidative damage to neurons
    • Some of the strongest research in the hydrogen space is neurological
  • Metabolic

    • Improves insulin sensitivity
    • Reduces oxidative markers in type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome
    • May support mitochondrial efficiency
  • Athletic performance & recovery

    • Reduces exercise-induced oxidative stress and lactate accumulation
    • Faster muscle recovery, less delayed onset soreness
    • Several RCTs show improved performance markers in athletes
  • Cardiovascular

    • Reduces oxidative damage to endothelial cells
    • Improves lipid profiles
    • Cardioprotective effects seen in ischemia-reperfusion injury studies
  • Radiation & chemotherapy

    • Used in Japan alongside cancer treatment to reduce oxidative side effects of radiation
    • Some of the earliest clinical hydrogen research was in this area

What a Session Looks Like

  • A hydrogen inhalation machine (hydrogen generator) electrolyzes water to produce H₂ gas
  • Delivered via a nasal cannula (like supplemental oxygen) at a typical concentration of 2–4% H₂ mixed with room air, well below the 4.6% flammability threshold
  • Flow rates typically 300–600 ml/min
  1. 01

    During

    • You sit or lie comfortably with the nasal cannula in place
    • Breathe normally, there's no sensation, taste, or smell
    • Sessions typically run 30–60 minutes
    • You can read, work, or rest during it
    • No pressure changes, no special preparation needed
  2. 02

    Frequency

    • Wellness / prevention: daily or several times per week
    • Therapeutic protocols (neurological, recovery): often daily for 4–8 weeks
    • Athletes: pre- or post-training sessions
  3. 03

    After

    • No recovery period needed
    • Some report immediate mental clarity or calm
    • Effects are cumulative, most research protocols run for several weeks

Safety Profile

Hydrogen has an exceptional safety record, it's been used in deep-sea diving gas mixtures for decades with no toxicity. The body naturally produces small amounts of H₂ via gut bacteria fermenting fiber. At therapeutic concentrations, no adverse effects have been documented in human trials.
